The Hockomock Girls Summer Softball League

In Governor Baker’s reopening plan, youth sports teams and leagues can begin reopening. During Phase 2, practices can start, which is tentatively scheduled to begin on June 8th, and games and tournaments are slated to start during Phase 3, which is tentatively scheduled to begin on June 29th. We have had many, many conversations with the NYBS board, as well as other area towns about plans for summer softball. The Hockomock Girls Summer Softball League, the league our summer all-stars typically play in, is moving forward with summer softball. The Hockomock Girls Summer Softball League is a competitive league geared toward girls who wish to continue playing softball at a higher level.

At this time, we now have the opportunity to expand our teams this summer in The Hockomock Girls Summer Softball League! We were planning for both a  U10A and U12A team, but we can expand the offerings this year to U10B, U12B, and U14.

Here is more information about the summer program:

  • Games would start July 6th

  • The league will run for 5 weeks, which gives players the opportunity to play 10 games

  • Teams will travel to other communities, including Attleboro, Dedham, Easton, Franklin, Mansfield, Middleboro, Stoughton, and Walpole (just to name a few).

  • U10 Games are played on Tuesday and Thursday nights.

  • U12 Games are played on Monday and Wednesday evenings.

  • Each team would have 1 practice a week.

  • The cost has yet to be determined. It will depend on how many players we have on each team, and how many teams we have this summer.

  • Players born in 2011 who will be moving up to U10 in the next season have the opportunity to try out for the U10B team.

Of course, this is all subject to change depending on state guidelines and restrictions.

The Hockomock Girls Summer Softball League is working to create safety guidelines and restrictions based on state guidelines and information from USA Softball. While there is nothing solidified yet, some of the regulations we have heard might be:

  • Players will not be allowed in the dugout.

  • Players will each need to bring a chair that is lined up 6-feet apart along the sidelines.

  • Players and coaches will need to wear a mask when not on the field.

  • During Phase 2 - players and coaches will need to wear a mask at practices.

  • Players will all need to hand sanitize between innings.

  • There will be NO gum or sunflower seeds.

  • All water bottles will need to be clearly marked with player names.

  • There will be limited spectator capacity (not entirely sure yet, either 50 total, or 1 spectator per player)

  • Parents will need to complete a covid-19 screening prior to each game.

The health and safety of our players, coaches, and volunteers is our top priority. If we do not feel that The Hockomock Girls Summer Softball League safety precautions are adequate, then we would not play this summer. However, if we feel the safety measures are appropriate, then we would like to give the players an opportunity to play softball this summer.

So, if your player is interested in trying out for one of the summer teams, please register at Registration will only be open until Friday, June 6, 2020.
